Hello There!
I’m Audrey, fellow soul trapped on the internet seemingly for all eternity. This is my special cosy zone, free of recommendation algorithms and people named Mike (last I checked (sorry any Mikes)). I sometimes post my thoughts here, I hope you don’t mind. It ranges from stuff about programming and game design to less cursed interests like writing, photographs and maybe even music.
I created this zone after I gave up Twitter back during the height of the covid pandemic, when I grew sick of dealing with all the issues big for-profit social media platforms create. A lot of people have since moved to Cohost (maybe? (2024 update: lmao)) and Mastodon, but those services are still inherently structured in ways that are similar to Twitter, and I’m kinda sick of all that. I don’t want to be forced/encouraged to endlessly engage with what other people post. Here I can add new content as I see fit and then go about my day.
Having my own website is a form of creative expression and a way to gain back some control over my online presence: I can style and build it however I like and be confident within reason that it won’t all disappear or break tomorrow; I don’t need to worry about how well what I create does with some algorithm; I also get to hide easter eggs and build user interactions that work in a way that’s frankly more fun (people often seem to forget how playful and interesting hyperlinks can be).
I hope your stay in the Audrey Zone is a pleasant one :)
